Gotham Season 5 Trailer Unleashes Bane For An Explosive Final Season

This is the end for Gotham, and the first trailer for season 5 isn’t being shy about touting it as an explosive finale for the series. A shortened fifth season will see the Batman prequel series bring as many of its storylines as possible to their logical (well, knowing this series, probably not logical) endpoints. Chief among them, of course, is the question of whether or not David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne will suit up to finally become the Batman, the role he’s been preparing for since the series launched in 2014.

In order to get Bruce to a place where he’ll become the Dark Knight, the series will have to take him and the other denizens of Gotham through a mixture of two storylines: No Man’s Land and Year Zero, which should prove an interesting combination, especially for the series’ final season. That finale is also going to include a wild reimagining of Bat-villain Bane, the baddie who broke the Bat in the comics and has since gone on to have some… interesting live-action iterations. This time, he’ll be played by Shane West, and will be borrowing heavily from Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy’s mumble-mouthed version in The Dark Knight Rises, with a very Gotham twist.

But the final season of Gotham is about more than Bane and Bruce’s pending adoption of his most famous alter ego. And, as the new trailer shows, the series will be as committed as ever to presenting its divisive take on Batman’s famous rogue’s gallery, specifically Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan), the new proto-Joker, as well as Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin, and Erin Richards’ Barbara Keane (who narrowly missed out on becoming Harley Quinn). The new season is also teasing some interesting developments for Camren Bicondova’s Catwoman, which will certainly have fans talking. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer also finds room for Ben McKenzie’s James Gordon, who has been through the ringer over the past four seasons, but looks to play a significant role in the show’s final run. Though some fans may be waiting to see the iconic Gordon mustache, it may well be more fulfilling to see the character whip the GCPD into shape, all while cementing his alliance with the city’s Caped Crusader.

As final seasons go, Gotham season 5 looks as though it’s not going to leave anything on the table. And considering this series seemingly hasn’t ever said ‘no’ to any idea that’s emerged from its writers’ room, it’s a good bet this last stand will be a wild ride, to say the least.
