Shazam Undergoing Two Weeks of Reshoots In Toronto

Shazam! will undergo two weeks of reshoots next month. The newest superhero on the Warner Bros. block will be brought to life by Zachary Levi alongside Asher Angel who plays the character's human alter-ego, young Billy Batson. Together, the two will face Mark Strong's Doctor Sivana, who will be the primary antagonist of the movie. Directed by Annabelle: Creation helmer David F. Sandberg, the movie will be a fresh take on the genre compared to previous projects in the franchise with the promise of it having a more lighthearted and family-friendly tone.

Not much is known regarding specific plot details about Shazam! but while it's not expected to have explicit links to the bigger DCEU, the events of the film will fit in the established continuity with Batson living in a reality where Henry Cavill's Superman and Ben Affleck's Batman exist. There's no word yet when fans will see Shazam! interact with other key players in the franchise after negotiations for a Superman cameo fell through. Nonetheless, Levi is optimistic about his chances of eventually joining the Justice League.

A Production Weekly listing first broke out the details with regard to Shazam!'s scheduled reshoots, which will supposedly last a little bit more than two weeks next month in Toronto. But since schedules posted on the site aren't always accurate, people were still skeptical of it. However, shortly after news came to light, Geeks Worldwide came up with their own report confirming the initial information citing sources based on the Canadian city. The Levi-led film will begin additional filming on November 1st and will finish on November 18th.

Over the last couple of years, the term reshoots have developed a bad connotation, especially when attached to a Warner Bros. and DC Films project. Films like Suicide Squad and Justice League famously underwent reshoots, which didn't exactly work for the better. Having said that, mandatory reshoots for blockbusters like Shazam! is not out of the ordinary. Almost every big budget film allots a block for pickups in case extra work needs to be done to ensure its quality.

Additionally, the most important assurance that Shazam!'s upcoming reshoots are nothing to worry about is the fact that Sandberg ran a pretty controversy-less production earlier this year. Except for fan discussion about the design of Levi's suit, there has been no alarming news regarding the movie. This is a major difference compared to Justice League and Suicide Squad, which were both plagued with issues long before their respective reshoots took place. The first full trailer for the movie was released during San Diego Comic-Con in July, and positively surprised a lot of people. And while fans have seen spectacular promo footage from other DC Films projects before only to be disappointed by the movie itself, this one seems to be a hit in the making for Warner Bros.
