Riverdale Season 3 Poster Promises An Even Darker Side To The Town

A new Riverdale season 3 poster shows that an even darker mystery will haunt Archie and friends when the show returns to The CW on October 10. Sure, Riverdale's first two seasons were already dark, but season 3 seems to promise to go even further down the bizarre and frightening rabbit hole.

Season 2 of Riverdale finally unveiled the identity of the Black Hood (or at least one of them) as Betty Cooper's father, but there is still much more drama to unfold in this not so sleepy little town. In the final episode of season 2, police arrested Archie Andrews for a murder he did not commit, and it is possible that Archie could even do some time in prison in season 3. Fans learned that Hiram Lodge, Veronica's father, framed Archie for the crime, and with Hiram's connections and money, it's likely that Archie will take the fall, at least until his friends figure out a way to prove his innocence.

Season 3 of Riverdale, though, could get even darker. A new poster released by Netflix shows the cast with the caption: "Every mystery has a darker truth."

Although season 3 will get its premiere on The CW on Oct. 10, the new season of Riverdale will begin elsewhere in the world on Netflix on Oct. 11. The CW has started to tease the new season, including a look at the new villain, the Gargoyle King, which resembles something close to a monster. Although the show has played around with the idea of the supernatural before, it's likely that the Gargoyle King is just someone in a costume looking to terrify the residents of Riverdale. One plot of season 3 will involve a series of ritualistic crimes taking place in the area, and it's likely this villain has something to do with that.

The end of season 2 also left the town of Riverdale nearly split down the middle, with tensions between the North and South side at an all-time high. With Archie on trial for murder and a new villain on the loose, the town will become even more chaotic than before. This is certainly not the Archie gang from the original comics that inspired the series.

As early as season 1, Riverdale quickly made itself into "must-see" TV and it's likely that trend will continue as it begins its third season. Fans will definitely want to tune in to see what happens next.
