Joker Fan Art Sends Joaquin Phoenix to Arkham Asylum

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is in Arkham Asylum in brand new fan art for Joker. Filming for the upcoming Warner Bros. and DC Films project directed by The Hangover helmer, Todd Phillips with a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, is set to begin this month. With a budget of $55 million, which is smaller compared to other films in the comic book movie genre, the movie will follow the titular character in the '80s  as a failed comedian before assuming his popular alter ego.

Specific plot details for Joker are still being kept tightly under wraps but it's confirmed that the movie will be set in a different continuity than the DCEU, launching a brand new DC Films banner that may be called DC Dark or DC Black. Casting continues with Robert De NiroZazie Beetz, and Marc Maron all joining the project. However, Phillips seems to be having problems finding an actor to play Thomas Wayne - Bruce Wayne/Batman's father. Alec Baldwin was initially attached to the role but dropped out of it shortly after his casting news broke out. Now, the role remains to be up for grabs as the hunt for the perfect actor to play the part continues.

Fans are digging the illustration, with some of them even pegging it as a legitimate concept art from the upcoming film. Check out the image below:

Cool as this may look, the chances that fans will see Joker be sent to Arkham in the upcoming film is slim to none. The movie is expected to focus on the character's early days before he went all rogue terrorizing Gotham City and Batman. This means that DC will finally give one of their most iconic villains a confirmed origin story - at least on the big screen. Considering that the Joker's history before he became Bruce Wayne's arch nemesis has been barely explored, Phillips and his team have the creative freedom to create a fresh story for the character.  Rumor has it that the movie will reveal a deeper connection between Joker and Batman in a way that they have the same father - Thomas Wayne. Shall this be the case, this corroborates previous reports claiming that the Wayne patriarch is supposedly playing a huge role in the flick.

While this plot detail is not confirmed, the idea was met with varying reactions from long-time fans of both DC characters. Some are flabbergasted about the possibility considering that it will significantly change the dynamic between Batman and Joker. Meanwhile, others are keeping an open mind with regard to how Warner Bros. may be planning to execute this. Regardless, it's piqued the interest of many which is exactly what the project needs especially given people's lukewarm reaction to it when it was first announced.
