Season 11 of Doctor Who is set to premiere next month, but before that the BBC has another sneak peek at the new Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker. The new season brings with it sweeping changes for the series and its title character as Whittaker embodies the female version of the character many fans — and incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall — wanted. And speaking of showrunner, Chibnall, the creator of Broadchurch, will replace longtime Who showrunner Stephen Moffat, whose final episode was the recent Christmas Special, ‘Twice Upon a Time.’
As such, there’s a great deal of anticipation for the changes that will be brought forth in the new season. So far, the BBC hasn’t been too shy about Whittaker’s take on the character, offering an extensive trailer not long ago that teased some of the upcoming season’s bigger moments. Now, as the premiere creeps ever closer, the network delivers a better look at the new Doctor, from the moment she lands on Earth and meets a pair of humans who are as flummoxed as she is.

The new clip is from the premiere, ‘The Woman Who Fell To Earth,’ and it offers a full scene between a befuddled Doctor and two new characters, Yasmin Kahn (Mandip Gill) and Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole), who aren’t exactly sure what to make of this chatty woman who claims to have been a “white-haired Scotsman” half an hour ago. To no one’s surprise, Whittaker is utterly charming in the role, playing off the lingering effects of the Doctor’s regeneration with plenty of humor and at least one (unintentional?) pun. Chibnall’s writing sees the Doctor as energetic and eager to converse with her newfound friends, despite not even realizing she’s a woman now. That last bit is also an intriguing look into the slightly altered personality of the ever-changing character, as this new Doctor seems pleased to have finally taken on this new form.
Audiences are just a week away from the new season of Doctor Who, which is itself quite a change, as the most recent season began airing in the spring of that year. This early October start will push quite nicely into the inevitable Christmas Special, which will make the change over from Moffat and Capaldi to Chibnall and Whittaker complete.
