Fans will soon have the opportunity to return to Dune in an all-new comic special from BOOM! Studios titled Dune: A Whisper Of Caladan Seas with a sneak peak of the upcoming comic available right now. Dune reshaped the fantasy/Sci-Fi genre and turned it into what fans know it as today after the first book was published in 1965 from visionary author Frank Herbert. Since then, a number of sequels and prequels existing within the wider universe have been written, both in the form of novels and comic books, all adding new layers to the Dune mythos. Now, another layer is about to be added to the Dune lore with a special comic issue.
Dune: A Whisper Of Caladan Seas will be helmed by the son of Frank Herbert and the creative mind behind a number of Dune novels Brian Herbert who wrote The Road to Dune, Hunters of Dune, and Dune: House Atreides to name a few, along with the writing talents of Kevin J. Anderson. The comic will be illustrated by Jakub Rebelka who previously worked on the comic Origins and Ed Dukeshire will be its letterer. The main cover art will be brought to life by artist Jeff Dekal who worked on the BRZRKR series with variant covers by Venom alum Elizabeth Torque, Something is Killing the Children artist Christian Ward, as well as the main illustrator on the series Jakub Rebelka.
As fans will see evidence of in BOOM! Studios' all-new first look of Dune: A Whisper Of Caladan Seas, the special comic will throw readers right into the chaos of the Battle of Arrakeen where a group of Atreides soldiers find themselves caved in beneath the surface where they believe they will meet a grisly fate. While the Atreides soldiers suffer beneath the surface of Dune, Paul Atreides meets his destiny on the battlefield where fans will see this chosen one of Arrakis in hardcore action. The comic will seemingly shift perspectives from Paul fighting for survival and the Atreides soldiers, and while all hope may seem lost for the soldiers, it is up to one of their survivors, Sgt. Vitt, to try to keep the darkness of their situation at bay. As a Jongleur, Vitt has a family trait of storytelling that can mentally transport people to a desired location. Fans will learn that the soldiers’ well being is up to Vitt, if he can use his powers to mentally transport the soldiers from their tomb on Arrakis to the vast lushness and beautiful seas on their home world of Caladan.

The new series will not only be written by Dune legacy Brian Herbert himself but will also be released in partnership with entities responsible for Dune’s continued relevance. BOOM! Studios will be releasing Dune: A Whisper Of Caladan Seas in partnership with Herbert Properties LLC and in full coordination with Abrams ComicArt which is the entity responsible for publishing the first trilogy of Dune graphic novel adaptations of Fran Herbert’s original novel which were released in the Fall of 2020.
From the impressive creative team behind it to the entities responsible for its release, Dune: A Whisper Of Caladan Seas is sure to be a treat for fans of the fantasy/Sci-Fi phenomenon that is Dune. Dune: A Whisper Of Caladan Seas will be available in comic shops and BOOM! Studios webstore as well as on multiple digital platforms including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Amazon Kindle on December 29, 2021.
