Both Shrill and Dead to Me focus on the growth and journey of a central character.
Annie is proud and humble on Shrill and she sees changes in her self-image and self-esteem as she aims to change her life for the better. Likewise, Jen and Judy are in a constant process of growth and self discovery. After both women of Dead to Me have undergone trauma and loss, the two of them show massive development and the attempt to be better even if they do take steps backward at times.
4 Broad City (2014 -2019) - Stream On Hulu
Female friendship is the cornerstone of both Broad City and Dead To Me. As Illana and Abbi show love and loyalty to each other as do Jen and Judy of Dead to Me.
The rewards and sisterhood of female friendship are put on display in both series as the main characters show tight bonds with each other. Broad City follows best friends Abbi and free spirit Illana and their shared misadventures in New York City.
3 Orange Is the New Black (2013-2019) - Stream On Netflix
Balancing between comedy and drama, Orange is the New Black and Dead to Me both use the dramedy format to excellent effect. Both series tackle serious topics and give respect to those subjects but also use humor to diffuse the heaviness of a situation.
Orange is the New Black is about Piper Chapman who learns to live behind bars after an incident from her past catches up to her. In prison, she meets an array of eccentric women.

Good Girls as well as Dead to Me espouses the importance of the bonds between friends. In Good Girls, three tight knit suburban moms are lured into a life of crime.

Big Little Lies follows the Monterey Five, a group of moms who become entangled in the death of one of the five's husbands. A great series that had stellar acting, Big Little Lies made many interesting points on family, marriage, sex, and friendship.
