Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars Movie Confirmed To Be Rogue Squadron

Patty Jenkins confirms her new Star Wars movie will be based around the X-wing fighters known as Rogue Squadron. Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm and started making new Star Wars movies, there has been a call for Disney to hire a female director. Through the five films released so far, that had yet to happen, until the recent news of Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins directing a new Star Wars movie.

Jenkins is currently in the process of promoting Wonder Woman 1984 ahead of the sequel's simultaneous release in theaters and on HBO Max. Following the success of the original Wonder Woman in 2017, though, fans began hoping that she could join the galaxy far, far away. Disney has just announced that Jenkins is directing a new Star Wars movie coming to theaters in December 2023, and now Jenkins has confirmed the news and why she was drawn to a Rogue Squadron movie.

Right after the announcement of Patty Jenkins' Star Wars movie came at Disney's Investor Day 2020, the director released a fun video on Twitter confirming the news. Jenkins explained her deep connection to flying and her attempt to find the right story to explore such a concept, which helped her land on Rogue Squadron. The video culminates with Jenkins putting on a pilot suit and helmet and walking towards an X-wing.
